Every quilt has a story....or several. The Crone Quilt Project began in the
late 1990's after a discussion with then "Country Crone" writer
Jeanne Hardy of Winthrop, Washington. We were searching for new ways for women
to connect. Being raised with quilting and quilts, as well as loving them,
the idea for a Crone Quilt was born.
In my own family, we made quilts one winter for each of
the ten siblings and their 26 children. Pieces of the fabrics our mother used
to make dresses for my seven sisters and me were saved and would later show
up some of these quilts.
Keeping this in mind, I requested quilters who wished, to
send a 9" x 9" square with something representing themselves or
what Crone means to them. To date we have fifteen squares, not all in the
required size but each unique and wonderful. Their stories truly enhance the
piece. There may be more than one quilt before we are finished! Periodically
a new square and its story will be featured on this page. Check it out!
The reverse side of the quilt will be squares signed by
Crones, imbuing the whole project with Crone energy throughout. When a quilt
is finished, it will go to the Crone Counsel for each year's gathering.

This center square was made on 1999 by Fanny
Weirauch of Keil, WI. She and her daughters jump-started this
project with six squares. They will be featured here as we go
along. The center square identifies this project. Fanny included
our totem crow/raven as well as The Goddess, as she has been portrayed
thougout the centuries, on a background of purple. A royal, Crone
color!
Please join us in this celebration
of women's creativity!
